The Republic of Türkiye is the Country-Coordinator of the Working Group on Trade and Economic Development from 1 July 2024 until 30 June 2026.

The key priorities for BSEC activity in the field of trade and economic development are defined by Goal 1 “Intensifying Intra-regional Trade and Investments” of the BSEC Economic Agenda "Towards a sustainable future of the wider Black Sea area"”, adopted in 2023.

The main activities are carried out by the BSEC Working Group on Trade and Economic Development in order to promote regional cooperation in the field of trade and economic development, which meets at its regular meetings at least once a year.

Four Meetings of the Ministers in charge of Economy were held that adopted Declarations serving as guidance for the activities in this domain. A fruitful cooperation is also developed with respective international organizations, which contributes effectively to the enhancement of cooperation in the region.

The Working Group focused its activity in particular on finding further ways for facilitating trade in the BSEC Region and establishing proper mechanisms for closer cooperation among the Member States in the respective area. In relatively recent period of time, the Working Group, in coordination with other respective subsidiary organs and international partners, has elaborated the “Framework for BSEC E-commerce Cooperation” which was adopted in 2021, as well as the draft “Regional Trade Facilitation Strategy for the BSEC Region” and the draft “Framework for BSEC Single Window Cooperation”, which await their adoption by the higher BSEC bodies.

The Working Group has on its agenda a number of topics, proposals and projects of shared interest to the BSEC Member States, such as: exchange of views on setting up an Information Exchange Mechanism on trade and economic issues in the BSEC Region, enhancing cooperation among the BSEC Member States in the sphere of E-commerce, sharing information on free trade zones and preferential trade agreements, on recent developments of economic and trade relations among the BSEC Member States, on recent developments with regard to measures taken to ensure smooth and sustainable achieving of the SDGs in the BSEC area, on National Trade Facilitation Committees, and etc.
