The Republic of Armenia is the Country-Coordinator of the Working Group on Culture from 1 July 2023 until 30 June 2025.

The key priorities for BSEC activity in the field of tourism are defined by Goal 8 “Development of Tourism, Protection of Cultural Heritage and Promotion of Modern Culture” of the “BSEC Economic Agenda Towards an Enhanced BSEC Partnership”, adopted in 2023.

The main activities are carried out by the BSEC Working Group on Culture, established in 2006, in order to promote regional cooperation in the field of culture, which meets at its regular meetings twice per year. Two Meetings of the Ministers in charge of Culture were held that adopted Declarations serving as guidance for the activities in this domain. A fruitful collaboration with the BSEC Working Group on Cooperation in Tourism was developed through the organization of five joint meetings and one Conference of the Ministers in charge of Culture and Tourism.

One project in the field of culture was carried out financed by the BSEC Project Development Fund.

The Working Group has on its agenda a number of proposals and projects of interest to the BSEC Member States, such as: the mapping of Byzantine routes; establishment of a network of experts on immovable cultural heritage; preparation of a representative list of intangible cultural heritage from the BSEC Member States that could be jointly nominated for inscription in the UNESCO list; publishing a collection of works of the classic literature writers; establishment of a “Black Sea Youth Symphony Orchestra”; cultural routes/cultural tourism projects; creation of a BSEC Cultural Platform; participation in film festivals; production of TV specials with the collaboration among the national TV stations (selection and promotion of emblematic cultural heritage or interesting stories); mobility of artists and artworks in different areas (events, festivals, etc.); cultural diplomacy; innovations and digital technologies.
